What Does A Healthy Immune System Have To Do With Getting Yeast Infections?

Your immune system plays a big role in whether or not you get a yeast infection, how often you get them and how fast or well your body fights off the infection.

Your immune system is so important because it’s your body’s second line of defense against infection. If you suffer from viruses and illness, your immune system can be damaged.

Without a healthy properly working immune system, your body can’t function properly

If you’re suffering from recurring yeast infections, you may take a look at your immune system and ask yourself if you are having other health issues.  Your immune system can break down for the simple fact that you may not be eating properly.  It’s important that the food, vitamins and minerals you’re consuming are balanced and the right ones for your immune system.

Some medical treatments may suppress your immune system (chemotherapy and corticosteroids).  Your recurring yeast infections may be because of your immune system not functioning properly.

If you’re one of the unlucky individuals who have a compromised immune system, a yeast infection can be very dangerous for you.  HIV and other illnesses such as leukemia and Lyme disease may cause a weakened immune system.  Chemotherapy temporarily damages your immune system.  If you have an organ transplant, you’ll be given drugs which will suppress your immune system.

The combination of these things can definitely make it easier for a yeast infection to take hold of your body.  If a yeast infection occurs in a patient with a compromised immune system, it can be life-threatening.

If you suffer from recurring yeast infections, it may be something you’re doing in your daily life.  It could be the clothes you’re wearing, the sanitary napkins or tampons you may be using, vaginal hygiene, the soap or sprays you may be using on your vaginal area.

If you feel you may have a yeast infection, it’s important that you either obtain a kit to test yourself (available over-the-counter now) or that you make an appointment with your doctor to get tested.  Often times, your doctor can prescribe you a pill which will likely clear your infection up.  Unfortunately, many doctors will advise you that if the prescription does not work to go ahead and implement and over –the-counter treatment.  It is advised that you choose a five to seven day yeast infection treatment in order for it to be effective.

Make sure you’re getting yourself checked if you think you have a yeast infection or if you treat an infection that does not go away.  It’s important to understand what type of infection you have in order to properly treat it.
