Treatment Of A Vaginal Yeast Infection With Terconazole

Terconazole is an anti-fungal medication typically used in the treatment of vaginal yeast infections and fungal infections. It is also sometimes prescribed for other medical uses by healthcare professionals.

Available in a topical cream or vaginal suppository, Terconazole is used to treat fungal and yeast infections of the vagina. Typically, women insert the cream or suppository into the vagina once a day before bed for a period of three to seven days.

Like any other vaginal yeast infection treatments, the user fills the applicator tube (included with the kit), lies on her back with her knees drawn and spread apart and inserts the tube into her vagina. Once the medication has been released into the vaginal opening, the applicator tube is then disposed of or pulled apart and washed thoroughly for continued use.

It is very important that women are washing their hands after making this application, because yeast infection bacteria can spread. You may want to wear a sanitary napkin to bed in order to collect the discharge that using a suppository or cream will make throughout the night. It is important that make sure you’ve already used the bathroom before inserting the medication into the vagina.

The reason women are supposed to do this at night is so that the medication has a chance to work while she sleeps and is not being washed out with urination.

It is extremely important that a woman changes her underwear in the morning and is thoroughly rinsing out her vagina after use of this product. It’s also important that you are putting your underwear through a sanitary cycle or sanitizing them in boiling water before wearing them again. Make sure you’re wearing white cotton underwear and that your clothes are not too tight fitting, particularly in the crotch area.

Before using this product, tell your doctor or pharmacist if any of the following is true:

-    You’ve had an allergic reaction to Terconazole or other similar drugs in the past
-    If you are currently taking other prescription or non-prescription drugs, especially antibiotics and supplements or vitamins
-    If you’ve ever had immune system issues or if you have HIV, AIDS or diabetes
-    If you are pregnant, planning on getting pregnant or are breastfeeding (Terconazole may harm the fetus)

If you forget to take a dose, make sure you insert the application as soon as you realize you’ve forgotten it. Known side effects of Terconazole are headache and missed menstrual periods. If you experience symptoms of burning or vaginal irritation, stomach pain, fever or a foul-smelling vaginal discharge, discontinue use and immediately speak to your doctor.
