What Treatment Options Are Available For Men With Yeast Infections?

Yes, men can get yeast infections too! Men and yeast infections isn’t something that is often talked about. It’s important to recognize the symptoms and get yourself treated in order to prevent infection being spread.

Yeast infections in the vagina are caused by the fungus Candida.  The Candida fungus thrives in warm and moist places (like the mouth and genitals).  When yeast in the vagina increases or new yeast is introduced into the vagina, a yeast infection forms.

If you’re having sexual intercourse while you have a vaginal yeast infection, you spread your infection to your sexual partner

You may have read that treatment of a male sexual partner who is not experiencing yeast infection symptoms isn’t necessary, but if a woman is experiencing recurring yeast infections and is at a loss as to why, it may be because the male and female are passing the infection back and forth.

Men can have a yeast infection and not experience the same symptoms as a woman.  Once the man finally does experience the symptoms, it can be extremely painful and uncomfortable.  That being said, a man and a woman can pass the infection back and forth without realizing it, so to be on the safe side, a man may want to treat himself with topical treatment at the same time as the woman.  You should both avoid sexual intercourse until treatment is complete and you are sure the infection is gone completely.

Some of the symptoms that a man might experience if he has a yeast infection on his penis are burning, itching, redness and white spots or patches.  This can infection can also spread to the thighs, gluteal folds, buttocks and scrotum.

You can try over-the-counter yeast infection treatments like a woman would use.  Simply apply the medicated cream to the infected (or suspected) area each night before you go to bed for five to seven days.

Besides a yeast infection being passed back and forth between a man and a woman, men can also get yeast infections from using antibiotics  and from consuming beer, alcohol, wheat products, corn products, peanuts, barley or from having a weakened immune system.

Men with chronic yeast infections sometimes have luck with treating the infection fully and then using a colon cleanser to completely clear their system out.  If you do suffer from chronic infections, you can try cutting down on the foods and alcohol that are known causes of yeast infections.  If nothing works, see your doctor and follow his recommendations.
